West Nile Virus season is here. According to the Mississippi Department of Health “four human cases have been documented in Mississippi so far this year. Cases are not usually serious but WNV can sometimes cause severe illness, especially if you are older or in poor health.” The Good News is there are some simple steps you can take to protect yourself. MSDH advises the use of mosquito repellent, particularly in the morning and evening, when mosquitoes are active outdoors, and the avoidance of mosquito-prone areas like shady woods, overgrown areas of the yard, and low areas that collect water.
