Our Momma – by Cindy Moore Wooten
To some she is “Cat”, “Neesie”, “Clara Bell”, “Mrs. Clara”, or “Sister Clara”, just to name a few, but to us—she’s MOMMA!
This momma of ours has worn many hats at different times along the way, always being most devoted to God and her family. As we “kids” thought of some of the ways she most inspires us – words like caring, selfless, loving, giving, thoughtful, hardworking, respectable, fearless, strong and encouraging quickly came to mind. Maybe some of these characteristics sound familiar? Perhaps you’ve heard them described in Proverbs 31. This passage simply gives us an example of how we should live life with purpose and diligence, putting all our faith and trust in God, loving Him most of all. If ever you will meet a woman that falls most in line with this example, I assure you, it is Clara Moore—OUR MOMMA!
She is a God-fearing woman that is full of faith. She was a great wife, and continues to be a great momma. She loves us with an everlasting, unconditional love – and most importantly, she loves God with all her heart, soul, mind and strength. Because she knows where her strength comes from, giving up has never been an option for her, even in the hardest of times.
First, she was widowed at the young age of 20, while having a two and a half year old toddler, being seven months pregnant, and having little money in the bank. Most would be in complete fear as to how they would make it. Though I’m sure she had her moments where “scared” thoughts arose, she continued to have faith, never doubting that God would supply ALL their needs – and that He did! They didn’t lack for anything, according to momma.
A brief time later, moving into yet another chapter of life, God sent her high school sweetheart back to her. They married, and had two more kids. Never were we raised as “half” anything! Thanks to momma and daddy, we are Just ONE Whole FAMILY! As she raised us and did her very best at always trying to set a Godly example, she definitely taught us what true devotion to both God and family looks like. What true strength and faith is! She has continued to do that even more, as she has recently faced some of the most painful, challenging times yet.
Just 8 months ago, she said goodbye to our daddy, her husband of 48 years, her high school sweetheart, as she laid him to rest. Less than 5 months later, she had a stroke that medically speaking should have left her paralyzed on one side, BUT GOD! She is now completely recovered.
She truly inspires and encourages us daily, as we watch her never losing faith, and fully trusting God, as she does what she so often reminds us and many others to do: “Walk out what God has already worked out.” We thank God every day for blessing us with this rare and precious jewel we call momma!
Happy Mother’s Day! We love you!
