Breaking – Woman Saved from Raging Waters in Carthage, Mississippi

Posted on April 17, 2022April 19, 2022 by Staff Report

A woman was saved from raging waters today in Carthage. Police Chief Coby Clay released the following statement about the accident and the courage of his police team.

“Today, is a proud day for me as a believer. Our Lord rose from the grave so that we may have everlasting life. But, as a Chief, I’m extremely proud of all of the men and women that serve along side of me in servicing this city.”

“Today, I’m extremely proud of 3 of our officers. It’s only fitting to mention them by name because of the sacrifice and commitment they exhibited today by saving the life of Miss Janice Johnson from raging waters located behind Gleason tire. Her car left the highway and plunged into the water. This was due to her having a blackout caused from a surgery 3 weeks ago.”

“The current carried the car to the rear of John Deere but carried Miss Johnson all the way to CVS Pharmacy. The quick action of Officer Rafael Cruz, Officer Andrew Bennett and Lt. Dee Wells displayed selflessness, commitment and dedication to the profession that sometimes doesn’t give back. To my fellow officers listed, I salute you for a job well done!!! Because of you, despite the rain, the sun has shined upon the department. Gratitude is given to you from the heart. To our fellow family of Carthage Police, please extend your appreciation to these officers. They truly deserve it!!!”

**** All are reported safe.

Update – 12am Monday Morning – Family member Kevin Kemp released the following statement- The family of Janice Kay Johnson would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for heroic efforts made by these three officers! They went above and beyond the call of duty to help save her life! Also thank you to Shannon Brown for her quick action to report the accident! We are very proud to be a part of this community! –

Update – Mayor Vivians said “we have an awesome group of young men at the Carthage Police Department who is dedicated to the cause of serving and protecting our community. I praise them for their heroic efforts yesterday for saving Ms. Johnson, and commend them highly for a job well done. Jesus still saves!! Thank you, Officer Wells, Officer Bennett, and Officer Cruz for your service to this city. Your bravery and commitment to saving lives will not go unnoticed.”

Carthage Police Department has done an awesome job. And the reflection of the department comes from the head down. To Miss Janice and her family we thank God they were there as a unit to help you when you needed them the most. To the three Officers 👮‍♀️ that went into those waters without a second thought, may the Lord continue to bless and provide for you and your families and keep you all safe as you do your jobs.
Lt. Dee Wells, your Auntie is so proud of you.

Outstanding and congratulations to all the officers involved in this rescue. These are the type of things we need to hear about more often. Much of the time when we hear about police actions it’s in a negative light.
I say “job well done “ to these civil servants, and thank you all very much.
